Even minor cosmetic blemishes can be embarrassing. If your teeth are discolored, cracked, chipped, misshapen, or have small gaps between them, there are treatments available to fix those blemishes and restore your radiant smile!
How do I fix blemishes in my teeth?
There are two common procedures used to fix minor cosmetic problems in the teeth – bonding and veneers. Both can be used to fix issues such as:
- Discolored teeth
- Cracks and chips
- Misshapen teeth
- Small teeth
- Tooth wear
- Crooked teeth
- Small gaps
At Kevin Spees Dentistry, our team of experts can use veneers or bonding to correct your teeth and leave you with a smile you can feel comfortable and proud in.
What is the difference between bonding and veneers?
Bonding and veneers are both very effective cosmetic treatments used to correct minor problems or blemishes in a patient's smile. However, there are a few distinct differences between the two.
Veneers are thin shells of porcelain that are crafted to mimic the surface of healthy white teeth. They are specially made to match your natural tooth structure and color. They can even be made to mimic the way your teeth reflect light! They are placed individually – even if multiple teeth need work.
This treatment option is usually reserved for more serious cosmetic fixes. Porcelain veneers are permanently bonded to your teeth – a procedure which requires a very thin layer of enamel to be removed from the original tooth. However, when properly cared for they have a very long life and can keep your teeth looking bright and healthy for more than a decade.
Unlike veneers, dental bonding involves molding a tooth-colored resin around the affected tooth. This resin is shaped and sized to match the surrounding teeth. The shade can also be customized to mimic your teeth's natural color.
Bonding is one of the fastest and cost-effective cosmetic procedures available. Dr. Spees will fit and shape the resin to create the desired effect before using a curing light to harden it. The entire process can typically be done in a single visit, depending on the number of teeth being bonded.
